COVID-19 coronavirus updates
There is plenty of information online for the current pandemic:
Click here to see the current advice from the NHS.
Click here to see the current advice for churches from the Church of England.
Click here to see our page of resources for prayer and worship whilst services are suspended.
The situation is constantly changing, so we will try and keep this page as current as we can during the present outbreak. Government regulations which stopped all activities involving gathering people are changing. However the building will be open weekly for personal prayer. See more information here
Church Life Whilst our Buildings are Closed
Each Sunday we post a recorded act of worship on YouTube. These are no longer than 30 minutes, and include prayers, some music, one of the readings of the day, and a talk based on the reading. The full service archive, along with downloadable sermons and talks, can be viewed here. Or you can go to the online worship videos on YouTube as a playlist here.
There are other activities for anyone who is able to use Zoom for online meetings:
Coffee After Church, 11am Sundays
From 11am each Sunday. You're welcome to join us whether for a few minutes or until we pack up (usually about 12).
Wednesday Prayer, 9.30am
We start with some simple set prayers and a reading of the day. We then have a time of open prayer together.
Weekly Quiz, 8pm Mondays
Join in as a household, or on your own, or be a team, using the Zoom 'chat' facility. We rotate who sets the questions, so you never know what might come up!
Pints of View. Monthly at 8pm, but days vary.
Our occasional men's group gathering over a pint can't currently take place in the pub, so we have a drink and chat together online.
If you'd like to join in any of these, contact the office or vicarage for the access link, using the details on our contact page.
Not Taking Place Until Further Notice
All gatherings for services of public worship
St Nick's was closed until further notice in line with the Prime Minister's announcement on 23/3/2020. Limited opening for personal prayer is now possible, so click here for details. We are also moving to holding limited acts of worship.
In the meantime, information about online prayer resources, streamed acts of worship and more is available here.
We are waiting for further information on the following:
Weddings and Baptisms.
These are now permitted, but with significant restrictions. Contact the vicar in the first instance.
Special arrangements are in place to enable simpler funeral services with a limited number of family present. At Haltemprice Crematorium and Queensgate Cemetery, this means that 20 can attend in addition to the minister and necessary staff. No hymns may be sung, but music can be played.
Similar arrangements are now permitted for churches. To comply with current guidance, we must also limit congregations to 30 in number.
Given the limitations, please consider a memorial service at a later date, when it is possible to gather fully again. We will also invite funeral families back to church for annual own service of remembrance and thanksgiving once it is permitted and safe to do so.
The Parish Office. The office telephone and email account will continue to be monitored, although office functions will be carried out from home.
Hall lettings. The centre is closed until further notice.
